Why Upgrade to an A-Rated Boiler?

Modern A-rated boilers run at over 90% efficiency. If your current boiler is more than 10 years old, it's likely running at closer to 60-70% efficiency.

That means for every £100 you spend on gas, up to £40 could be wasted out the flue. By upgrading, you not only make your home warmer and more reliable, but you also cut your energy bills significantly.

  • Lower Energy Bills: Save up to £340 a year on gas.
  • Peace of Mind: Backed by warranties of up to 12 years.
  • Smart Control: Compatible with Hive, Nest, and smarter thermostats.
  • Better Performance: Faster heating and higher hot water pressure.

Which Boiler Type is Right for Your Home?

The right boiler depends on your property size, hot water demand, and existing pipework. Here's a quick comparison.

Combi Boiler

Best for: 1–3 bedroom homes with 1 bathroom

The most popular choice in the UK. A combi boiler heats water on demand — no hot water tank needed. Compact, efficient, and ideal for smaller Sussex homes and flats.

Typical cost in Sussex: £1,800 – £3,500 installed

System Boiler

Best for: 3–5 bedroom homes with 2+ bathrooms

A system boiler works with a hot water cylinder, delivering strong water pressure to multiple taps and showers simultaneously. Ideal for larger Sussex family homes.

Typical cost in Sussex: £2,500 – £4,500 installed

Regular (Heat Only) Boiler

Best for: Older homes with existing tank and cylinder

A traditional setup requiring both a hot water cylinder and a cold water tank. Often the best choice for older Sussex properties with existing gravity-fed systems.

Typical cost in Sussex: £2,000 – £4,000 installed

Boiler Installation FAQs

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward like-for-like boiler swap typically takes one day - usually between 4 to 6 hours. If we need to move the boiler to a new location or make significant pipework changes, it may take 1 to 2 days. We'll confirm the expected timescale when we provide your quote.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?

Yes, absolutely. Every Platinum Boilers engineer is Gas Safe registered, fully qualified, and regularly assessed to ensure they meet the highest industry standards. You can verify our registration at any time through the Gas Safe Register. Your safety is our top priority.

What areas do you cover?

We cover all of Sussex, including Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Worthing, Crawley, Bexhill, Peacehaven, and Seaford, as well as surrounding towns and villages. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, please give us a call - we're always happy to help.

Can you help me choose the right boiler?

Of course. Our engineers will assess your property - including the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and your hot water usage patterns - and recommend the most suitable boiler. We'll explain the options clearly and give you all the information you need to make the right decision. There's never any pressure to buy.

What happens to my old boiler?

We take care of everything. Your old boiler is safely disconnected, removed from your property, and disposed of responsibly in line with environmental regulations. This is included in all our installation packages at no extra cost.

Will I need to be home during the installation?

We recommend that someone over 18 is present at the start and end of the installation, or for the full duration if you prefer. Our engineers will need access to the boiler location, the gas meter, and potentially your loft if the flue runs through it. We'll discuss all access requirements before the installation day.

How do I book a boiler installation?

Simply fill in our online estimate form, call us on 07711 120 788, or email hello@platinumboilers.co.uk. We'll give you an initial guide price, then arrange a convenient time to survey your property (this is free and no obligation) to provide you with a Guaranteed Fixed Price quote. Once you're happy, we'll schedule the installation at a time that suits you.

What brands of boiler do you install?

We install boilers from leading manufacturers including Worcester Bosch, Glow-worm, Ideal, Vaillant, and Alpha. All our boilers are A-rated for energy efficiency. We'll recommend the best brand and model for your specific requirements and budget.

Do you install LPG boilers?

Yes, we do. We're fully qualified to install, service, and repair LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) boilers, which are ideal for properties that aren't connected to the mains gas network. Many homes across rural Sussex rely on LPG, and we regularly carry out installations in these areas. We supply LPG-compatible models from leading manufacturers including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, and Ideal, all rated A for energy efficiency. Our engineers hold the specific LPG qualifications required on top of their Gas Safe registration, so you can be confident the work is carried out safely and to the highest standard. Whether you're replacing an old LPG boiler or converting from oil, get in touch and we'll talk you through your options.

Do I need a new boiler if mine is 15 years old?

Not necessarily, but it's worth having it assessed. Most boilers are designed to last 10–15 years with annual servicing. After 15 years, efficiency drops noticeably — older models may only be 60–70% efficient compared to 90%+ for a new A-rated boiler. If yours is still working but costing more to run or needing frequent repairs, replacing it usually makes better financial sense over the medium term. We're happy to provide an honest assessment at no cost.

Can you install a boiler in a loft, kitchen, or garage?

Yes, we can install boilers in a range of locations including kitchens, utility rooms, lofts, garages, and airing cupboards. The best location depends on your property layout, access to the gas supply, and where the flue can safely vent to the outside. Moving a boiler to a new location may involve additional pipework, but we include all costs in your fixed-price quote upfront so there are no surprises.

Will fitting a new boiler cause much disruption?

We keep disruption to a minimum. A standard like-for-like swap is usually completed within a single day, so you'll have heating and hot water back by the evening. We lay dust sheets to protect your floors and furnishings, and we always clean up thoroughly before we leave. If any pipework changes are needed, we'll explain exactly what to expect beforehand. You may be without heating and hot water for a few hours during the changeover, so we recommend scheduling your installation for a day that works around your routine.

What is a magnetic filter and do I need one?

A magnetic filter is a device fitted to your central heating pipework that captures iron oxide sludge and debris before it reaches your boiler. Over time, this sludge builds up naturally inside radiators and pipes, and if left untreated it can reduce efficiency, cause cold spots on radiators, and eventually damage your boiler's heat exchanger. We strongly recommend fitting one with every new installation — it's included as standard in our Gold (from £2,150 +VAT) and Platinum (from £2,850 +VAT) packages. It's a small investment that helps protect your boiler and keep your energy bills down.

Can I move my boiler to a different room?

Yes, relocating your boiler is something we do regularly. Common reasons include freeing up kitchen cupboard space, moving the boiler closer to where hot water is needed most, or improving the flue route. Moving a boiler involves extending or rerouting gas, water, and waste pipework, so it typically adds a day to the installation time. We'll assess the best new location during your free home survey and include all associated costs in your fixed-price quote — no hidden extras.

Do you offer emergency boiler replacements?

Yes, we understand that a broken boiler — especially in winter — is urgent. We do our best to prioritise emergency replacements and can often carry out a survey and installation within a few days, subject to boiler availability. If your boiler has broken down beyond repair, call us on 07711 120 788 and we'll get things moving as quickly as we can. We'll always give you an honest assessment of whether a repair might be more appropriate before recommending a full replacement.

Is it worth getting a combi boiler?

For most homes in Sussex, a combi boiler is an excellent choice. It heats water directly from the mains on demand, so there's no need for a separate hot water cylinder or cold water tank in the loft — freeing up valuable space. Combi boilers are compact, energy efficient, and ideal for small to medium-sized properties with one or two bathrooms. For larger homes with higher hot water demand, a system boiler with a cylinder may be more suitable. We'll assess your property and usage during your free survey and recommend the best option for your needs.

How do I know if my boiler is unsafe?

Warning signs of an unsafe boiler include a yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one, dark staining or scorch marks around the boiler, a pilot light that frequently goes out, unusual smells when the boiler is running, and excessive condensation on windows. If you notice any of these signs, turn the boiler off, open windows for ventilation, and call a Gas Safe registered engineer immediately. Never attempt to inspect or repair a gas appliance yourself. If you suspect a gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 straight away.

Do you provide a Gas Safe certificate after installation?

Yes, every installation we carry out is notified to the local authority building control department through the Gas Safe Register, as required by law. Once the work is complete, you'll receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (also known as a CP12 or gas safety certificate) confirming that the installation has been carried out safely and to the correct standards. This certificate is important to keep — you may need it if you sell your property or for insurance purposes. Our Gas Safe registration number is 966527, which you can verify on the official Gas Safe Register website at any time.
